HAPPY PRESIDENTS’ DAY WEEKEND! HERE IS THIS WEEK’S UWAR ARTIFACT OF THE WEEK!
These obsidian projectile points are among the many such points uncovered at the Game Creek site (48TE1573) in Teton County. Obsidian points are particularly helpful for understanding prehistoric land use, trade, and travel since obsidian can be tested to discover its source. There are many sources for obsidian in Teton County including Teton Pass, Engineers Quarry, Grassy Lake Reservoir, Park Point, and Tanker Curve. As obsidian is a type of volcanic glass, it is unsurprising that major obsidian sources in Wyoming are in the immediate vicinity of the Yellowstone Caldera. Consequently, Park County also contains a number of obsidian sources.
