Trade Brooch- Dubuque, IA

Today's feature is another item from a private collection. This trade silver brooch is from the Haltmeyer collection. Its location is listed as "probably from Catfish Creek, Dubuque. There is a maker's mark, "PH". This mark is from Pierre Huguet dit Latour, 1749-1817. It is incredibly challenging, if at all possible, to determine a more specific provenience from items collected long ago. However, collectors today can do an invaluable service by documenting and mapping the location of their finds and helping us create a site form to build a more detailed story of Iowa's archaeological past! Remember, we do not make your find locations public knowledge! #iowa #archaeology #historicalarchaeology #furtrade #tradesilver #artifacts #context #provenience
